“Being honest may not get you many friends but it’ll always get you the right ones.”John Lennon

John Lennon (1940 – 1980) was an English singer-songwriter who founded the Beatles, an iconic and internationally-acclaimed band. He met Paul McCartney in 1957 and together formed their first band, the Quarrymen which later evolved into the Beatles in 1960. After the group disbanded in 1970, he embarked on a solo career with the support and participation of his wife, Yoko Ono. He continued to produce critically acclaimed albums with iconic songs such as “Working Class Hero” and “Imagine.” In 1975, Lennon took a break from the music scene in 1975 to raise his infant son Sean but was working on a comeback album. Three weeks after its release, he was murdered by a crazed fan named Mark David Chapman.

Before becoming a great rock n’ roll legend, Lennon was a typical choirboy and boy scout in Liverpool, yet he’d always been different. Lennon himself was open to his rebellious past and his struggles as a non-conformist. He admitted that as a kid, he wished to be accepted by the society yet he knew that it would be like lying to people about who he really was. Nonetheless, he was described as a “happy-go-lucky, good-humoured, easy going, lively lad” by his cousin whom he spent much time with as a teenager.

The unfortunate and controversial end of the Beatles was said to be caused by conflicts between members, but before his unexpected death, Lennon said, “I still love those guys. The Beatles are over, but John, Paul, and Ringo go on.”
