“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars.” Les Brown

Leslie Calvin “Les” Brown (1945 – present) is a motivation speaker with the catchphrase “It’s possible.” He was a radio DJ before he got elected in the Ohio House of Representatives. After his term, he ended up on PBS and hosted “The Les Brown Show.” His newest career as a motivational speaker and author won him various awards in the local and national category.

Shooting for the moon, literally speaking, was one of mankind’s greatest accomplishment aptly dubbed as “one giant leap for mankind.” However, exploration was not its ultimate goal. According to Roger D. Launius, senior curator of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, “The driving reason was Cold War competition with Soviet Union. Without that, it wouldn’t have happened.”

Only a total of 12 people have walked on the moon, and none of them did it more than once. Lunar exploration is a costly and dangerous project originally propelled to cause intimidation. However, 40 years after the iconic “man on the moon” event, scientists are now eager to go back for scientific & economic purposes that will affect human civilization for the next years. The objectives are now to unite nations under one goal: technological advancement for the benefit of mankind.

Scientists are certain that the perpetuity of mankind relies on space exploration. To quote astrophysicist Stephen Hawking: “I don’t think the human race will survive the next thousand years unless we spread into space. There are too many accidents that can befall life on a single planet. But I’m an optimist. We will reach out to the stars.”
